Spent today building a new Open Solaris server which will be used as a storage device for Tina new Lab. The Dell T3500 presented a few problems. The installation was problematic from the start, first the dvd drive had to be removed to install the 4 -- 1.5tb drives.
I started by trying to install the 2009-06 version of Open Solaris. The livecd booted, but crashed before I could run the installer.
After spending the whole day trying to fix 2009-06 and find the right incantation to start the live cd, I finally reverted to 2008-11 (Thanks Lucas).
After booting 2008-11 the network adapter and the SATA Controller were not recognized. After a little googling I found that the SATA Controller need to be set as ATA or ahci mode.
I now have a Open Solaris server, and hopefuly I can upgrade to the latest version without any issues.
